DO GOOD AS YOU GO
As a travel journalist I have been fortunate to visit the far corners of the globe. Like most adventure writers, I often returned home proud to share in what I had done. But, had I done anything good?
I realized I was missing an opportunity to make a positive impact on the people I encountered as I traveled. Too many residents in beautiful parts of the world struggle every day just to survive.
As travelers we have a responsibility to be good guests in the places we visit. We have the unique ability to use our trips as a vehicle to bring those less fortunate the tools and resources they need to better their lives.
CLEAN DRINK started with a simple idea to take one water purification system to a school in Kathmandu, Nepal. It quickly grew to half a dozen units, each with the potential to provide clean water to 200 people.
I was able to extend the reach of my project because it wasn't just - my project. With support from a few friends and family we changed the lives of more than 1,000 people in just 10 days of fundraising and on-the-ground travel. We proved that the few can help the many.
Now CLEAN DRINK is rolling with unexpected momentum with projects on two continents. Propelled by a collective desire to do good as we go, the Clean Drink community is growing rapidly.
There are different ways to get involved:
- Help spread the word
- Donate to the CLEAN DRINK Fund
- Pack a bag and hand-deliver clean water
