The Mustang Valley is perhaps the most iconic overland destination in Nepal. Used for thousands of years as the conduit between Tibet and India, the deep valley cutting through the Himalayas presents unbelievable views. Several of the world’s tallest peaks flank the route into the Mustang.

Discover the Nepal no other visitors get to experience and leave behind the gift of safe drinking water.

During this bold adventure we start in the city of Butwal. We travel northward through the district of Palpa into the terraced hills of the Himalayas before turning at the Kali Gandhaki River. Once we arrive near the city of Baglung we start our two-day ascent into the Annapurna Preserve and the Mustang Valley.

Our high-point for this adventure is the monastery village of Muktinath. Towering peaks line our route up and down the Mustang providing fresh views in both directions. On our return we will stop in Gulmi to deliver water purification systems to their local schools. A final romp through the lowlands and river valleys of the foothills brings us to the adventure capital of Nepal, the resort town of Pokhara.

True to all Clean Drink Adventures, our team members have the choice between travel by way of Royal Enfield motorbike or Land Rover Defender SUV. This is adventure as big as the Himalayas.

Arrival Date in Kathmandu: April 19th

Departure Date from Kathmandu: April 30th

Every CLEAN DRINK ADVENTURE includes a full day delivering safe drinking water solutions to local communities and schools in the Banke, Surket, or Jajarkot Districts. These are beautiful parts of Nepal with vibrant cultures and stunning natural beauty. Sadly, they are areas frequently devastated by waterborne illness.

  • Raise the financial resources needed to purchase water purification systems for our partner villages and schools.

  • Transport MSR SE200 chlorine makers from the United States to Nepal, and then hand-deliver them to communities in the most remote parts of Nepal.

  • Gain firsthand experience of Nepal’s splendors and challenges to help spread awareness for further change.

Clean Drink travelers are an essential part of our continued success. They do the one thing the people of rural Nepal simply cannot, which is to raise funds and awareness. Each water system delivery becomes a dynamic cultural exchange helping to affirm out commitment to the people of Nepal.

I never thought I would get to visit Nepal. I certainly never thought I would get the chance to travel there to help save lives. This was the most exciting and rewarding thing I have done in years. Nepal is amazing. - Alex Cyphers

We’re proud to have partnered with Vishu Sijali and his expert staff at Altitude Riders. With decades of combined expedition experience, they cater to our every need. The Nepalese have a famous saying, guest is god. Nepali hospitality is legendary.

The other reason we use local guides is to ensure we adhere to our own travel sustainability standards. Every dollar we bring into Nepal stays in the country and helps stimulate local economies. In return, we’re shown the real Nepal, the magic kingdom so few get to see. This is luxury travel, Nepali style.

The Indian-made Royal Enfield motorbike is an icon of the Himalayas. They like to say, “The 350cc Bullet is built like a gun.” They’re tough, durable, and extremely fun to ride.

They may appear ill-suited to the rough roads of the world’s largest mountain range, but they’re strangely capable. We have the option to provide the more modern variant, the Royal Enfield Himalayan, but experience has shown, the Bullet is the bike more riders wish to ride.

*We require all riders have at least one year of licensed motorcycle riding experience, and one year riding on mixed surfaces.

A CLEAN DRINK ADVENTURE is rugged, but we also like to be comfortable. Our hotel partners in Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Butwal offer luxurious accommodations with superb service. Once in the remote parts of Nepal hotels and restaurants simply do not exist which is why we spend most nights in a fully supported expedition-grade camp.

Our world-class support staff creates a comfortable camping experience complete with table linens and warm tea delivered to your tent each morning. We use the best camping gear available provided by our partners at MSR in Seattle. Each team member gets their own private tent for maximum comfort. You may be camping most of your time in rural Nepal, but at no time will you rough it.

I have been all over the world. This trip was life-changing on so many levels. I know I will be back, probably more than twice. - David Page

We want our team members to enjoy the ride. To that end we travel with a support truck complete with our own master mechanic, RamDev Baba. He can fix anything in no time at all. Because the motorbikes we use are small, our Mahindra SUV does the heavy lifting of carrying all of our gear. All you have to do is ride and enjoy the scenery.

The western reaches of Nepal are pristine and undeveloped. As a result, paved roads are few and far between. Our routes traverse a myriad of uncharted roads, some considerably rougher than others. Our path through the Karnali Province tackles a few challenging sections, but nothing an intermediate, or ambitious novice, motorbike rider can’t handle. Be prepared for more dirt than blacktop, and revel in the adventure of riding the path less traveled.

Given the rough conditions, we try to keep our mileage and ride times to a minimum. We never exceed six hours in the saddle and start our days early to ensure road closures and unforeseen circumstances don’t prolong the day. This is an active adventure and requires basic levels of fitness.

We can't help our friends in Nepal without the financial means to do so. Fundraising is a critical part of our program. Clean water solutions simply cost money. To date our travel teams have provided water to more than 10,000 people in the remote corners of Nepal. The funds you raise go directly to the people of Nepal. You get to personally deliver the gift of safe drinking water.

To help streamline our fundraising efforts, we have partnered with MSR Global Health. Our fundraising campaign is hosted on their website and makes for a fun and easy way to generate excitement and donations. Because we help every team member meet their target goal, some reach far beyond the $1000 target. A surprising number of our previous team members, new to fundraising, generated in excess of $3,000. It’s easier than it looks and every dollar raised helps people in need.

  • A deposit of $1,000 secures each participant’s place on the team

  • Single supplement accommodations for private hotel rooms at the Attiti Resort in Pokhara and other locations is $200 (All rooms are private for the three nights in Kathmandu)

  • Our reservations team can assist with booking additional hotel stays at a large discount for travelers opting to spend more time in Nepal.

  • Minimum participation: 5

  • Discounts are available for groups of 4 or more.

Our pricing structure reflects a commitment to compensate our Nepalese partners with a fair wage. Undercut pricing is common in Nepal’s travel market. At the same time, our intimate knowledge of the country allows us to offer the best travel value in Nepal.

The trip fare includes 90% of the expenses covering your travels from the minute you arrive in Kathmandu. Many tour operators fail to include the costs of hotels in Kathmandu, or transit expenses to get to the starting point of the actual trip. Those fees can easily add another $1,000 to the bottom line. We have no hidden expenses and don’t want you to reach for your wallet unless it’s to buy a cold drink or a memorable souvenir.
